seeing emptiness

Roland Barthes, 'La Camera Chiara'

This man survived a gay ‘cure’ clinic in China, and now he wants everyone to know that being gay is OK.
From All Out member Xiao Zhen (TW for abuse):
"I was electro-shocked at a gay ‘cure’ center in China. Doctors hypnotized me and said they would ‘shock the gay’ out of me.
In families like mine, being gay is still seen as something that can be cured, and scam clinics prey on that fear. Now, I want my friends, my family and everyone in China to understand that being gay is normal.
If we get the World Health Organization (WHO) to join in and speak out against gay ‘cures’, it could create a perfect storm. It could help convince officials to finally ban these dangerous gay ‘cures.’

Will you sign my petition asking WHO Director Dr. Margaret Chan to speak up now and condemn gay ‘cures’ in China?” - Xiao Zhen

Night Photography revisited. I took these photos last october-november moving at night in the small towns near where I’m currently living. I shot colors but arranged them in black and white two times, being completely uneasy with them. Until last year colors were tricky for me. Now I know better how to use them, so these are the definitive versions. I met a guy from Morocco over this bridge. I was placing my tripod and all, and he came to me asking what I was doing. I told him I was doing night photography. He asked me why. I told him lights are harder at night. After a while he started to run, followed by a couple of policemen. I think he was a pusher, a small one. I really hope he’s fine.

Now I know better how to use them, so these are the definitive versions. I work on a photo until I reach some sort of visual poetry. I can’t give a definition for this. It’s a matter of how an image fits with what’s in my mind. So my photos are a diary in a way. If you exclude from this a diary of things that are happening. I don’t believe in such thing as ‘what is happening’. I believe that what is inside of us is more real than events. A photo has to reach that level. It has to allow something to happen inside of me.

Novartis is a pharmaceutical company famous since many legal suits. Novartis produces Ritalin. In 2005 Novartis payed some million dollars to propel pharmacists to persuade transplanted patient to use Miforytic, damaging the Medicare and Medicaid programs. In 2009, Novartis refused to give free vaccines to some third world countries, differently from what GlaxoSmithKline did.

When I took it, I was remembering about an old prostitutes cemetery Nobuyoshi Araki took a photo of, near his house. I tried a perspective, a framing that was reminding me of his works. I feel a connection between Japan old prostitutes and the victims of war here in Europe.
